What is an online timer?

An online timer counts down from a time you choose and sounds an alarm when it reaches zero. Timelive’s timer needs no app, keeps counting in the background, remembers where it was if you reload, and offers one-tap presets for the lengths people use most.

Timer questions

How do I set a timer online?

Type hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset such as 5, 10 or 25 minutes, then press Start. An alarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero.

Will the timer ring if the tab is in the background?

Yes, as long as the page stays open. The countdown is based on the clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and Timelive asks your browser to keep the screen awake while it runs. Some phones and browsers pause background tabs when the screen locks, so for important timers keep the tab open and the volume up.

Does the timer keep going if I reload the page?

Yes. Timelive remembers when the timer will finish, so after a reload or if you reopen the page in the same browser, it carries on from the right moment.

Can I use it as a Pomodoro timer?

Yes. Choose 25 minutes for a focus session, then 5 minutes for a break, and repeat. After four sessions many people take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.

How do I stop the alarm or turn the sound off?

Press Stop alarm or the Escape key. The alarm also stops by itself after one minute. Untick Sound to use the timer silently; the screen will still flash and the page title will say “Time’s up”.
